Hi, thank you for your reply. I went to a seminar (hope I spell it right) and the Dr. showed us all the operations , so of course I would  want the Lap-Band. Then he says that there is an out-port where he would put on the inside of your skin to add the saline to adjust the band, now why did he say that , I hate needles.  So I am not sure which one I want. I am 350lbs and need to do this.....He also said that before we meet him personally we would have had to decided on which one we want, so he hasn't call yet..I'm Scared and can't sleep trying to make up my mind....Please be my pen pal, I am always alone, and don't really tell anyone what I am doing as far as this is concerned.  Once again thank you...Hope you are not scared....please let me know...My name is Rose, nice to meet you Theresa!

Rose,
Hi there so have u already decided on the lap band??? I chose VSG after I had already made my mind up about having the lap band first.
but the more I learned about Lap Band the less I wanted a foreign object in my body (just my opinion, and u hate needles) Girl you better do more homework.. I went on YOUTUBE and viewed tons of peoples videos diaries and it helped me soooo much... I am 4 weeks post op VSG I love it I am so thankful and happy I chose it...then again I was a lucky one (so I am told) I have had no complications no issues and I am feeling ok  I lost 33 lbs so far since the 2 week pre op diet prior to surgery...then again I went to a support group and the ladies with Lap Band are happy to .. except the one that had to re-do her surgery...YIKES
So I am on here daily checking out everyones situations making sure I am in the norm...I feel ya, you dont wanna tell everyone about the surgery I was like that at first Now I tell everyone I run into..it is weird...I dont want them thinking I am smoking rocks when they start seeing me shrinking away... LOL
P.S. With the sleeve (VSG) there is hardly any dumping and no hunger hormones.....check it out

Hello Rose, my name is also Rose...I had Realize Band on Sept 15, 2009. I have lost 78 lbs and am feeling great. This is a decision you need to make for yourself. Learn all you can about all the surgeries availalbe to you. I chose band surgery because I didn't want to rearrange my organs, others don't want a plastic object in their body. Whatever your decison, you can get lots of support here. Go to the different surgery boards and read, search the internet and read some more. Good luck and we are here for you!

Hi Rose, you have just made my day, reason, for I am alone doing this for myself...My computer is so slow do to age(6yrs) and I will have to turn it off for a while.   Any case, that is why you and others mean so much to me.  OK, I will do what you say as far as looking at All surgery's. I have never heard of Realize Band...?  I am going to find out which one will work best for me, oh , I am 350lbs, 5'7 and pretty, lol. I am 53 yrs old , 9 grand kids. I have a young spirit as my sons always tell me, and I can't see myself in no ones wheel chair, or worst. So everything and everybodys input matters a heck of a lot.   Sorry for the long reply, but it has to be know.  Thank you and I will do research.    By Rose and hope to hear from you again...Have a nice evening....

Good morning Rose! Hope you are having a great week!

I am curious as to why you decided on the Lap-Band? What was it about the lap-band that appealed to you the most? Will your insurance cover the lap-band?

I really didn't have a choice with the place I'm having surgery. As far as I know they only do the RNY.  I guess with me, it seems as if this is the one thing that will force me to change habits, make better food choices and create healthier habits. I know it will be hard and a big change but I also know I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to and YOU CAN TOO!

When do you meet with the Dr. again? Are you excited or nervous?

Sorry it had taken me so long to reply. I look forward to chatting with you. Take care of yourself!

You don't know how much this means to me. Thank you for your reply early or late will never matter to me, your here for me that's all that counts.OK, I would like to know what RNY means? I am more excited, to meet with him, but I would have to know exactly which surgery I want. That's the part I am trying to figure out.I have been reading the post and went to my pr. Doc. and she doesn't sound to good about the VSG op.! So now I am really confused.  I know one thing I want to lose this weight for I am so tired of being in pain, back, knees arms  just everything hurts do to my weight. I see you are a pretty woman and I know I am so imagine when we lose!   OK, I am a little nervous also...just a little. I feel more stronger by my replays.   Take care of yourself and thank you again.....Rose

I'll be honest I had to look up the RNY as I wasn't sure why it was called that. It's a procedure that was named after someone and his name started with an R. Anyhoo...what happens is they go in and split the stomach into 2 sections. Then the intestine is re-routed. you then end up with having a pouch that can only hold a few ounces of food at a time. It's a pretty serious operation but from the article I read (not sure when it was published) it is considered the "Gold Standard" of wls.  This surgery is done laproscopically if possible. but as with any wls if you don't stay faithful to your new way of life you can and will gain the weight back.

I guess before you make any decisions on which surgery you want make sure you do your research. Maybe calling the dr. and ask him for some information on the different types of wls they offer.  See if they offer any free seminars on the weight loss surgery. It's best to have all the information you can get your hands on so you can make an informed decison.

I think that losing weight will be helpful to my health too. My back hurts something awful all the time. I'm not getting any younger and as we age we have increased risks of different health problems. I want to try and have a better, healthier and active life.

You are right we are going to be gorgeous once we have our surgery. I've been looking at the before and after pictures on the home page and I just imagine seeing my own. Im glad we're able to be friends and support one another on this wonderful adventure!
